Frailty Series – Frailty Overview
GeriatricFrailty is a geriatric syndrome which leads to increased vulnerability to stressors, affects overall health and quality of life, and limits functional mobility and ADL/IADL. Clinical Practice Guidelines recommend interdisciplinary team management to prevent or reverse frailty. Incorporating frailty interventions and leveraging existing evidence-based strategies will facilitate optimal outcomes for residents with frailty. This course provides a review of frailty definitions, risk factors, pathophysiology, screening and assessment tools, and emphasizes the relationship between frailty and other geriatric syndromes and chronic diseases.

Frailty Series – Preventing Adverse Outcomes
GeriatricThis course provides an overview of available interdisciplinary team (IDT) best practice to improve quality of care and prevent adverse outcomes for frail older adults. IDT approaches include comprehensive geriatric assessment, evidence-based practice and best practice tools, expanded rehab services, strong communication among IDT members, and resident and caregiver education. Clinicians should be aware of unique patient goals in order to integrate timely palliative and hospice care as well as a comprehensive plan for transitions of care.

Upper Quadrant PENS
GeriatricThis intermediate level course for PT/PTAs and OT/OTAs on patterned electrical neuromuscular stimulation (PENS) is part of a series of Accelerated Clinical Practice courses. Through a combination of lecture and lab demonstration this course provides the attention necessary to achieve proficiency in the use and application of functional and neuro re-education PENS to muscles in the Upper Quadrant. The course includes a review of literature regarding muscle activation, physiology research, and functional outcomes associated with PENS applications. Additionally, the course covers the impact of PENS on physiological impairments and how it contributes to improved patient participation, activity, and functional performance.
