About this course:

This three hour course is intended to provide clinicians with the most current in-depth information about chronic wounds and their treatment. The course materials and clinical protocols presented are evidence-based and oriented to immediate clinical application for standard and skilled therapy for chronic wound healing. The lab demonstration will reinforce concepts and techniques integrating biophysical agents to accelerate wound healing and positively impact participation, activity, and functional performance.

Instructor:

Susan Jackson, PT, CEEAA, NASM-CES, CWS
Regional Manager of Operations

Susan Jackson graduated from the University of Louisville in 1994 with a Bachelor’s degree in physical therapy. She received her certifications as an Exercise Expert for Aging Adults in 2011 and Wound Care Specialist in 2020. Professional experience began with Sundance Rehabilitation in acute geriatric rehabilitation. In 1998, she began to pursue patient care in the long term care setting with Accelerated Care Plus/Sundance as a clinical program manager where she educated staff on the use of modalities for clinical indications related to pain, contractures, wound healing, incontinence, and neuromuscular reeducation. She has also worked as an Area Manager with Sundance Rehabilitation and Director of Rehabilitation for Marriott Senior Living Services. In 2004, Susan rejoined Accelerated Care Plus/Hanger to continue her love of teaching, and to educate therapy staff on treatment techniques.  This would enable each patient to reach their maximum functional potential.

Neuro Rehab Task Analysis

This one-hour intermediate level course for PT/PTAs and OT/OTAs is part of a series of Accelerated Clinical Practice courses. Neurological disorders increase with age and are the leading cause of disability across the world. The WHO International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) can be used as a framework for the neurorehabilitation process to facilitate assessment, set goals, and select appropriate outcome measures and interventions. This course reviews the ICF model, with a focus on the qualitative measure of movement/task analysis for neurological conditions in order to support comprehensive assessment of activities of daily living (ADLs) and function. Several core tasks will be discussed, emphasizing analysis of observable constructs and application of task and environmental variations. The course includes a case study incorporating task analysis to reinforce the course content and support the therapist’s critical thinking.
